Nestled among the green hills and rolling terrain of South East Queensland's Monarch Glen, Kindira has been thoughtfully designed to complement its natural surrounds while creating a welcoming, connected community where families can live, grow and belong.

Developer Mirvac has worked hand-in-hand with leading Landscape Architects Vee Design to create a masterplan for Kindira inspired by connection to nature and community.

David Hatherly from Vee Design explains what life will look like in one of Logan’s newest and most sustainable masterplanned communities.

Connected to nature

Kindira is being built on a 1,024 hectare site in Monarch Glen, about one hour from Brisbane. While within easy reach of urban conveniences, the site is surrounded by lush green landscapes, with natural elevations creating expansive views, sheltered valleys and ridgelines to explore.

David says the site provides an incredible canvas to work with, allowing the topography of the land to guide the placement of homes, infrastructure and amenities.

“From the beginning, we saw an opportunity to create a community that would grow from the landscape rather than simply sit within it,” he says.

“That idea became fundamental to the vision for Kindira: a place where the natural character of the land shapes the community, inspires public spaces and gives residents an enduring sense of connection to place.”

This translates to careful site selection for each element of the masterplan, placing homesites along view corridors where possible, choosing easily accessible locations for schools and parks, and using established bushland corridors to create naturally defined neighbourhoods.

“Neighbourhoods, streets, parks and pathways have been carefully considered in response to the land, with existing vegetation and environmental corridors helping to structure the community,” says David.

Connected to community

David says good urban design brings people together by creating natural opportunities for them to connect.

At Kindira, a series of linked neighbourhoods, each with its own amenities and shared spaces, set the scene for natural day-to-day interactions.

Smaller neighbourhoods that, together, form a collective community, help with social cohesion.

“The key is to create a collection of welcoming, connected neighbourhoods rather than allowing Kindira to feel like one large development,” says David.

“Each neighbourhood will provide places where people can meet, play, walk and spend time close to home, while remaining connected to the wider community.

“These are places where friendships can form, children can play and families can create lasting memories.”

Kindira will boast 10 neighbourhood parks, a district recreational park and two sports parks, which will all form part of 400 hectares of green space across the community, linked through a network of roads, pathways and walking trails.

These connected green corridors will create additional opportunities for residents.

“A morning walk, a family bike ride, an afternoon beneath a shady tree or a conversation with a neighbour can all become part of the natural rhythm of life,” says David.

“Ultimately, this nature-based network will give residents the freedom to step outside their front door and feel immediately connected to their surroundings, their neighbours and the wider Kindira community.”

Committed to conservation

Beyond the beauty and lifestyle benefits of its natural environment, Kindira has achieved a six leaf EnviroDevelopment certification, the top rating awarded by the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA).

The six-leaf rating represents excellence across key measures of sustainability: ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community.

Kindira residents will see sustainability reflected in native and climate-resilient planting, water-sensitive design, considered stormwater management, resource-efficient construction and connected streets and pathways that encourage walking and cycling.

“Importantly, it reflects a commitment not only to protecting the environment, but to creating a healthier and more resilient place for generations to come,” says David.

Staying connected

Kindira has been designed as a multi-generational community, with housing and amenities carefully planned to support residents through all stages of life.

A variety of homesites will open the door for everyone, from first time buyers and families through to empty nesters, to join the community, with both a primary and secondary school proposed to allow local children to complete their education close to home.

Parks and playgrounds will feature equipment for all ages, encouraging families to stay and grow with the community over the years.

David says a successful community is a place where all residents can feel deeply connected to where they live.

“At Kindira, children will have places to explore and play, teenagers will have opportunities for independence, activity and social connection, families will have spaces to gather, and older residents will benefit from comfortable, accessible and well-connected environments,” he says.

“The legacy of this community will be the friendships, traditions and shared memories that will be formed over time.”
